What does CAD stand for?
CAD stands for Computer-Aided Dispatch. CAD is a highly-specialized computer application that allows for the coordinated communication, assignment and tracking of Police Department resource in response to calls for service.
What type of data from CAD is reported in Public CADmine?
Select calls-for-service data is utilized in Public CADmine, including: Date and time, Location, and Call Type. It is important to note that there may be multiple calls for a single incident in the CAD system. Also keep in mind that CAD calls-for-service do not always equate to a criminal incident resulting in a report or arrest.
Why can’t it find my address?
This may be due in part to the geofile that is used to plot locations on the map based on user input. If addresses are entered incorrectly, or if the geofile doesn’t contain the correct reference data, select addresses may not be depicted on the map. If this occurs, please refer to the address correction box that appears. You can also zoom-in on the map to find your neighborhood, or enter a nearby intersection.
What types of reports are available?
Users can view agency-wide call type reports for last week or the last 12 months, or neighborhood-level reports showing call type counts for last week or the previous 12 months.
How can I use the data from Public CADmine in support of community safety goals?
Data from Public CADmine should be reviewed and used to improve community safety. This data is appropriate to consider and discuss as part of a coordinated crime prevention initiative. You are encouraged to continue partnering and problem-solving with your local law enforcement agency.
Is every CAD call type included in the reports?
Not every CAD call type is included in the reports. Community-based calls-for-service types are included. It is decided by the local agency which types are to be shown in the reports and which are to be excluded.
Why was dispatch data chosen as the source for these reports?
While most agencies furnish data to the public for only those select incidents for which a report was created or an arrest was made, Public CADmine offers a broader view of police-community contacts from calls-for-service, including less threatening quality of life issues. It is important to note that there may be multiple calls for a single incident in the CAD system as compared to official crime statistics whereby each count represents one incident. CAD call-type data is not the same as reported crime data. For official crime statistics, please refer to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data for your jurisdiction.
